Motor neurone disease is a rare condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system. This leads to muscle weakness, often with visible wasting.
Motor neurone disease, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), occurs when specialist nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord called motor neurones stop working properly. This is known as neurodegeneration. Motor neurones control important muscle activity, such as:
As the condition progresses, people with motor neurone disease will find some or all of these activities increasingly difficult. Eventually, they may become impossible.
There's no single test to diagnose motor neurone disease and diagnosis is based mainly on the opinion of a brain and nervous system specialist (a neurologist). The diagnosis of motor neurone disease is usually clear to an experienced neurologist, but sometimes specialised tests are needed to rule out other conditions with similar features.
Progression of symptoms
The symptoms of motor neurone disease begin gradually over weeks and months, usually on one side of the body initially, and get progressively worse. Common early symptoms include:
• a weakened grip, which can cause difficulty picking up or holding objects
• weakness at the shoulder that makes lifting the arm difficult
• a "foot drop" caused by weak ankle muscles
• dragging of the leg
• slurred speech (dysarthria)
The condition isn't usually painful.
As damage progresses, symptoms spread to other parts of the body and the condition becomes more debilitating.
Eventually, a person with motor neurone disease may be unable to move. Communicating, swallowing and breathing may also become very difficult.
There is no cure with this illness it is a terminal disease and needs more awareness and raising of funds to support families as well as the research teams.
Please come along and support our event we would really love to make it a great one for all future brides or even for a girls day out, as well as a successful day for the charity.
This wee project is starting to grow.. as a charity Motor Neurone disease is still unknown to many people. What if you woke up and realised you could no longer communicate by moving your legs then this moved on to all limbs and the only way to communicate was through a voice on a computer via your eyes until your breathing muscles stopped working?
There is no cure. Motor Neurone Disease Association MND Northern Ireland are here to help support people suffering from this cruel life threatening disease. The fundraising that takes place helps support the research teams and to support households needs communicating tools for everyday use. My own father passed away from this disease at 64 .. and like many other sufferers and families who deal with MND - initially you don;t know what it is until it destroys the persons body whilst their mind is still very much intact. Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. Have anyone you know been recently diagnosed - the website is a great source of information - http://www.mndassociation.org/what-is-m…/brief-guide-to-mnd/
So far to date I have helped raise over £8000 to this charity to remember my father and those currently suffering or who have suffered from it.
My New Years challenge will be slightly different - A Bridal Wedding Fashion show. With leading fashion designers Shauna Fay and Claire Garvey Couture CGC this will start to showcase outfits and fashion styles for those upcoming brides. I will be giving away 1 wedding photography package at this event also.
But I would like to thank those who have shown there support over the last week or two with this - the planning stages are starting :))) Please stay tuned as more details will be coming soon.

Our shoot from June has been published in this month's edition of North west brides. Very excited to have worked with Creative Jemz and Claire Garvey Couture as well as been back in the beautiful Corick house hotel grounds and had the help of florist Donna woods and photography support from David Barr. My first published shoot thanks to all the nice people involved for asking me to be a part of this project.
Project Managing a shoot involved using a number of businesses together to create a beautiful image. For my June shoot, i wanted to help give Jennifer Quinn Make Up some imagery as well as Donna Woods Florist. I used the great Rosie's closet for fashion, Corick House hotel as the venue, Creative Jemz for hair styling, Belle Marie for Head pieces and models Jenna, Helen and Chloe.
This gave me the areas i needed to create some great shots.
We have used the bedrooms of Corick to create a more vintage feel with looking at the wooden floors and chairs as features as well as the big windows and stair cases. I also like to emphasize Donna's flowers with the mirror doubling the effect of flowers in the room. Jenna's beautiful red hair and the emerald green really gave a striking look. Helen's flowers and head piece and the beautiful makeup again done by jennifer really came through and gave me the look i wanted. Chloes striking look was perfect for the red and cream dresses. We created a different type of bride. Striking hair by Jemma and striking makeup by jennifer.
I want to thank all of the team for helping me achieve the end result of this shoot. Another thanks to Rosie, Kirsty and the girls at Rosies closet and Sinead, Avril and team over at Corcik Hotel.
